Flexfarmd, for Tomorrow

flexfarmd was born in june 2020, mid-pandemic, while driving through north Texas. Massive wind farms, stretching into the distance, cover the horizon. Thousands of turbines in an unexpected place: the home of Big Oil, Big Hats, and Big Trucks.

While calculating the rate of return for a commercial turbine (10kW, 50% efficiency, an average energy price of 0.20c/kWh, and an average price of $20,000 -- 10 years), we came to a realization: wind power, and renewable energy generally, has the potential to liberate millions of people from dependence on an old and failing electrical grid. In Texas, farmers put turbines on their land because they take up little space, they leave room for cattle and agriculture, and they generate extra income. At scale, these effects can be huge. But the effects aren't just felt at scale: communities have the power of numbers, and actions as small as a coffee can wind turbine, repeated over and over, can affect real change.

From the small to the large -- community to commercial -- people are looking for alternatives. Currently, renewable generation is sold to the grid, mixed with power generated by natural gas and coal, and re-sold to our neighbors. We lose visibility, we lose control, and we lose an opportunity to work together. By providing a platform to build, measure and track, and collaborate on renewable infrastructure, flexfarmd wants to rebuild our power grid with sustainability and longevity as our only goal.

We are building a toolkit for communities to achieve independence by creating their own local microgrids and supply chains. Our two products, breezed and flexgridd, provide hardware and software to help every day people generate and track energy production.
